An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is an evaluation completed by a qualified examiner who is not employed by the school district. It gives families and IEP teams an independent, objective view of a student's needs.
Serving children and families from the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, and across Northern California at our Napa office, with evaluations also available by telehealth in California, Washington, New York, and Texas.
When an IEE can help
- A family disagrees with the results of a school district evaluation
- A student's needs are complex, or several concerns overlap
- The IEP team wants a more in-depth neuropsychological picture
- A student is learning in two languages and needs a bilingual assessment
What we evaluate
- Cognitive and neuropsychological functioning
- Attention and executive functioning
- Memory, learning, and academic skills
- Social-emotional and behavioral functioning
- Language factors for bilingual (English/Spanish) students
Reports for the IEP team
Our reports explain the findings in plain language and give specific, practical recommendations for eligibility, services, and accommodations that the IEP team can put to use.
What to expect
- Initial conversation. We talk with you about your concerns, whether an evaluation is the right fit, and what records will help.
- Parent interview and records review. We gather developmental, medical, and school history and, with your permission, input from teachers and other providers.
- Testing with your child. Your child completes engaging, standardized activities, paced with breaks so we see their best effort.
- Feedback and report. We meet with you to explain the results in plain language and provide a written report with clear recommendations for home, school, and treatment.
